Cognitive Therapy

Rapid Cognitive Therapy

RCT is a client-centred, multi-faceted brief therapy that allows rapid and effective resolution of all manner of psychological and emotional conflicts.

The therapy is rapid in that the intent is to resolve problems in the quickest possible time. Cognitive in that clients increasing understanding of the power of thought will inspire positive changes to his/her belief system and allow assimilation of those changes in daily life.

Various therapeutic practices are used depending on the nature of the issue, including relaxation and stress management techniques. ‘Change your mind change your life’ – techniques that show you how to control your thinking so that you can lead your life the way you want and not feel controlled by past events, and outside influences.

The same event often produces different reactions in different people eg an interview could be a confident experience for one person or a frightening experience for another even though qualifications etc are the same. The difference is the sub-conscious self-talk. Negative self-talk often promotes limiting beliefs that keep us from doing what we want to do. Cognitive work (what we think is what we get!!) allows one to take a moment, step back and observe what you say to yourself and change to realistic or even positive thoughts. Sometimes the origin of the self-talk would need to be addressed in order to proceed to more realistic thought processes. For example social anxiety may be the result of constant reinforcement of the message ‘never speak to strangers’ as a child and this is what you sub-consciously remember when you meet someone new.

The miracle is that we are the thinker of our thoughts. If we are not experiencing the life we want, then we have the power within to look at what we are thinking and change. Everything starts from a thought and thoughts are within our control.
